Cerpen: School

“What is a school, Paul?”

Han was only two years old when he blurted out his curiosity of what I was doing on my laptop the whole day. Truth is, I do not know how to explain this properly because I know damn well he is a smart child. I typed something real quick and picked him up.

“Do you know,” I sat him on my lap, facing a picture of an animal infront of him, “how many legs does this octopus have?”

He shook his head, but then pointing on the screen, trying to count them. Suddenly he stopped after counting up to five. I let him think for a while, but he turned back at me, “I don’t know what is next, Paul. Will the school tell me?” I nodded.

“But why won’t you?” His face is full of enthusiasm.

“Because in school, the teacher will teach you not only about how many legs do octopuses have, but how they breathe, how they move, and many more cool things too!” I really hope he understands at this point.

“But why won’t you tell me all of that too, Paul? You said you were doing school, right?”

I guess school doesn’t teach me how to deal with cute little brothers.
